You’ve probably seen movies with that big screen billboard in Times Square, right? Or maybe you have actually gone to New York City and seen it. What if every thought you have and every moment you live (both good and bad) was up on that screen? Every time you thought something terrible about a person or a family member; every time you lost your temper; every time you lusted about a man. It was all up there and people just sat there and watched. That would be pretty intimidating wouldn’t it?
The Times Square billboard is a little unrealistic, but lets say your pastor could flip on his T.V. and your life and thoughts would be right there for him to watch. You probably wouldn’t feel comfortable showing up on Sunday for church would you? Well, your life and thoughts are being watched by your Pastor (capital ‘P’ Pastor). Are you someone who looks good when they go into public but your actions at home are a mess? Maybe your thoughts are corrupted by sinful lusts. God isn’t fooled by how you look and act when you go out into public. He isn’t fooled by good acts of service. If you are someone who struggles with a temper towards a parent, friend, sibling, or spouse, take it to the Lord and daily lay it at His feet. Ask for peace and forgiveness. If you are someone who struggles with bad and lustful thoughts, ask the Lord to take them away and keep yourself accountable. Do you watch things inappropriate or read books or articles that are full of sin? Get rid of them because of your love for the Prince of Peace.
God is in a sense watching your life on His “t.v.” He is watching you. This should make us want to live more Christ-like lives. Our Father, our Savior, knows our sinful actions. Some of us may be trying to rid ourselves of our evil desires but there are others who don’t really care. “Jesus loves me no matter what!” Though this is true, we will give that account I keep talking about.
So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
2 Corinthians 5: 9-10
We should want to renew our minds because of our LOVE for Christ. We should want God to watch our lives and see women who are gentle with our kids, loving and forgiving towards our husbands, and encouraging with our friends. Don’t give the devil a foothold by the temptations of your flesh. Bring your struggles to the Lord, He is your Rock, and commit to getting rid of them.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Galatians 5: 20-26
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
